What is Death Race 2050 all about?

It is the year 2050. The Death Race serves as both entertainment and population control in the United Corporations of America, which is beset by overpopulation and a 99.993 percent unemployment rate. The current Death Race features reigning champion Frankenstein, genetically engineered athlete Jed Perfectus, hip-hop sensation Minerva Jefferson, female cultist Tammy the Terrorist, and the evil, black, artificially intelligent, self-driving car ABE, which spans from Old New York to New Los Angeles. Each driver is given a proxy, a broadcaster who gives the viewers a virtual reality experience of the race. Frankenstein is instantly turned off by his proxy, Annie Sullivan, and dismisses both her efforts to interview him and her advice to let his opponents pass him by.

Rebels, headed by former network producer Alexis Hamilton, plant traps all over the East Coast while the drivers race. When Tammy and Minerva take one other's cult members with the purpose of killing them, they develop a bitter rivalry. As a result of encountering an insurgent trap, ABE malfunctions, kills its proxies, and departs the race in search of its life's ultimate purpose. Frankenstein is ordered to be killed at the first checkpoint by Hamilton. She fails in her effort to woo him since he only worries about winning the race. In other places, the Chairman says that Frankenstein has become a burden because of his long life, but Perfectus will inspire his dedicated followers to die at his hands instead.

Gun-toting Americans will be in full view as the marathon enters its second day. Chi Wapp, Minerva's proxy, is killed by Tammy's suicide bomber. Following an unplanned detour, the car driven by Dr. Frankenstein becomes stranded in a field of corn. While Annie is gone, Frankenstein takes on the ninjas of the Resistance. At the second checkpoint, Annie reveals to Frankenstein that she is a rebel. To win, Frankenstein says, he'll do anything to get his hands on power. That she's an academic who plays the hip-hop stereotype for a living, Minerva tells Annie. Perfectus, envious of Frankenstein's fame and sex appeal, is kept at bay by Annie. For now, the Chairman is coordinating his efforts with Hamilton's.

On Day three of the race, the government will select "authorized" routes for the drivers to use in order to avoid being attacked by the Resistance. Because to the injury to Frankenstein's right arm sustained after his battle with Perfectus, Annie assists him in shifting gears. Minerva gives pursuit to Tammy, but in an effort to dodge Tammy's suicide proxy, she ends herself falling over a cliff. Tammy takes pleasure in Minerva's demise until an ABE comes back, smashes her against the wall, and then blows itself up, bringing both of them to their deaths. While Hamilton and her rebels are wiped out by Frankenstein and Annie, Perfectus is making his way toward the finish line through a hidden pathway. Both vehicles back and forth until Perfectus loses control of his vehicle and slams into the control booth for the virtual reality experience. Just before he crosses the finish line, Frankenstein sends out a message to his followers in which he implies that the Chairman is worth a thousand points on his own. After Frankenstein has successfully eliminated the Chairman, much to the joy of the onlookers, he then invites them to forgo their virtual reality and begin their very own Death Race. Frankenstein and Annie observe from a distance as the nation descends into violent anarchy, during which time Frankenstein makes the suggestion that they should repopulate the country when the anarchy has subsided.

How was Death Race 2050 produced?

Corman was being interviewed by an Italian journalist at the time, and during the course of the conversation, the interviewer made the statement that The Hunger Games was very similar to Death Race 2000. This sparked the idea for a sequel to the original picture that Corman had produced. Corman approached Universal Pictures, which had created the contemporary remake (which Corman believed had discarded too much of the political commentary of the original), and proposed putting back the dark satire that was there in the original. Corman congratulated them and informed them, "You did a terrific job, but you've removed the murdering of the pedestrians and the ideas of a broken society."

Filming started while Corman was in his 80s, just around the time of the 2016 presidential election in the United States. It portrays a businessman who is currently the Chairman of the United States Corporations. "The president does have a hair style which may be approaching Trump's hair style, but I don't want to go too deep into that, since Trump will come and go and the film will stay."

Was Death Race 2050 an enjoyable experience?

"Even though the Death Race movie series is drawing to a close, there are a surprising number of Death Races in the franchise. Roger Corman returns to the Death Race franchise with Death Race 2050, the follow-up to the Jason Statham-starring Death Race trilogy from the late 2000s and early 2010s. In spite of being excellent films in their own right, they had very little in common with the original Death Race 2000 from the 1970s. A three-day race through dystopian America, where pedestrian deaths are awarded points for their over-the-top personalities, is how Corman gets this burning disaster back on track! A 50 at the end of the title this time around." - Internet personality Decker Shado
